Vienna has a good public transport system, which runs from about 5.30 a.m. until around midnight. Reduced tickets (Vorverkaufsscheine, Umweltkarte, Monatskarte) are available at tobacconists or station offices. Foreign students who are registered at any university in Vienna may also obtain a so-called "Nachmittagsbildungskarte" for ÖS 55,- per month. This ticket is valid Monday - Saturday from 1.00 pm until closing hours. On Sundays and holidays it is valid throughout the day. It has to be applied for at:

WIENER VERKEHRSBETRIEBE
1030 Wien, Erdbergerstraße 202
Tel.: +43/1/790 91 00

You will need your student-identification-card of Vienna UT (you will receive that card after your registration with the university), and a passport photo.

On Fridays, Saturdays and during nights before holidays a few bus lines are also running at night. The fare has to be paid in the bus. No reduction is possible.

Taxis are very expensive in Vienna. Because of frequent jams and the disastrous parking-space situation in Vienna, you are advised against using your own car.

2. Accommodation

As soon as the University Extension Centre is informed about a student`s nomination for Vienna UT, the student receives a so- called "Heimplatz Reservierungsformular" (form for the reservation of a place in a student residence). Should you wish to have a room at a student-residence procured, you have to return the completed "Heimplatz Reservierungsformular" with proof of payment of the reservation deposit (ÖS 2.000,-) to University Extension Centre.

After submitting the completed application form, you will be informed about the acceptance or rejection, no later than one month before your arrival. In general only double-rooms at an average price of ÖS 2.500,- per month are available at student residences.

If you prefer private accommodation you should alco contact the address given above. The average rate for private accommodation is about ÖS 3.500,- per month.
