1.2 Structure

Vienna University of Technology is divided into five schools with a total of 106 institutes. A number of institutes are divided into subdepartments and working groups. The institutes are autonomous units with responsibilities for both research and teaching. Each institute is headed by a professor, who is elected every two years by the Institute Council.

This council consists of the professors and representatives of the assistants, students and non-academic staff.

The Faculty Council is the equivalent administrative body at the faculty level and is headed by the Dean, a full professor of the respective school.
